The engineers sought a high-quality solution to control all pumping processes during excavation. In an international tender process, AuCom won the contract to supply electronic soft starters controlling the many 700 V, 310 kW submersible pumps needed to drain the tunnel as digging progressed.

Electronic soft starting reduces current levels during starting. Closed loop electronic soft starters enable motors to be started with the minimum possible start current required for the application. This reduces voltage disturbance which is important for weak or limited supplies.
